We had our first virtual meeting on the newly acquired DIT campus in Second Life today. The open plan building stands on 1536 square metres in Arcata, which is on one of the main land masses of Second Life. It is a good central location, close to the coast. Pictured standing at the main entrance are Jennni Back (Jen Harvey), Acuppa Tae (John O'Connor), Locks Aichi (Claudia Igbrude) and Johnstuart Milena (Kevin O'Rourke). This is the first time staff have attempted a live meeting in SL from our desks in DIT. It was moderately successful. The network was a little slow resulting in jerky movement in-world and some of us found our PCs crashing with regularity. In fact, Oisin Bedrosian (Noel Fitzpatrick) was unable to log on at all.
Logging into Second Life from DIT can be an issue and we will post details of the basic requirements soon. But, at least we have made a start by acquiring a DIT space in this virtual world. We are hoping to establish a regular meeting time so that anyone interested in joining us to see what SL might have to offer can get a taste of the potential. Information on the dates and times will be posted here soon. In the meantime please visit DIT in Second Life.
